I adore reading with my seven-year old daughter, and I cherish any opportunity to explore books with her that share the central beliefs of our Christian faith. Recently, I had the pleasure of reading a book by Danielle Hitchen called, Bible Basics: A Baby Believer Counting Primer. (Catechesis Books, 2016)
Although this book might be considered a “young read” for my advancing 1st grader, I still found my daughter captivated by it’s beauty and simplicity. Counting from 1-10, children can explore clearly presented scriptural truths as they delight in twenty pages of colorful and inviting illustrations, by Jessica Blanchard. My daughter, especially, enjoyed reading about the 8 Beatitudes. The floral illustrations, in this section, caught her eye and sparked lively conversation about what it means to be merciful and peaceful children of God.
This book is an excellent teaching tool for parents and I find myself referring to it as my daughter moves along her journey as a young believer.
Bible Basics is a wonderful companion! It’s with us, now, as we explore the country of Chile while on Spring Break. Over the past 48 hours, we’ve focused on God’s 6 days of creation and how He has made a world for us to explore and care for. We’ve also focused, together, on the 9 fruits of the Spirit as as we’ve paid special attention to the fruits of patience and self-control during these long hours of travel, and an unexpected change to our original destination of South Africa.
Bible Basics offers rich moments to grow spiritually alongside your child. I’m grateful to have it in my library and will carry it with me often. The colors used in this book make it a pleasing selection for both boys and girls.
I highly recommend Bible Basics as a resource for any parent praying that their child never feels far from God’s abundant love.
And, as an Easter surprise, I’m offering one copy of Bible Basics to one lucky winner! Comment below with your favorite verse from the bible and enter to win! A winner will be announced Monday, April 17th, 2017. Good luck!
